By treating animal waste in a controlled anaerobic environment, the installation of Lagoon Biogas Digesters at commercial size farms, will have significant economic and environmental benefits such as:

Energy security.  The biogas from the bio-digesters used as a sustainable, renewable fuel source to operate a gas generator, displacing conventional electrical grid fossil fuel energy sources.

High Quality Fertiliser.  The effluent from a bio-digester, which is almost entirely liquid in content, is very rich in the nitrates, phosphorus and potassium for use on farm pastures.

Improved Manure Management.   Reduces the build-up of manure solids in farm storage lagoons.

Improved Air Quality.  The negative impact of odour on surrounding communities from open lagoons is addressed, as the bio-digester captures and utilises the methane rich biogas that would otherwise have been emitted into the atmosphere.

Lagoon Biogas Digesters are to be installed at farms to replace open lagoons that are currently being used as animal waste management systems, and are allowing the unrestricted emissions into the atmosphere.  These digesters will be engineered specifically to suit the farm environment, and the amount of animal waste currently being generated by the farm and deposited daily into the existing open lagoon.

The captured methane-rich biogas, which is the result of the anaerobic digestion (AD) process, is “scrubbed” to remove hydrogen sulphide.  This is necessary as hydrogen sulphide has a corrosive impact on the power generating equipment.  The gas is then used as a fuel for electricity generating equipment, providing power to be used on the farm.

Each installation will have a digital monitoring system that will relay all process information to a central server for up-to-date monitoring via the Trade plus Aid website.
